We’re glad you’re interested in our clinic. Taking the first step toward mental health support is important, and we’re here to make the process as comfortable and straightforward as possible. Whether you’re exploring therapy or simply trying to understand your options, we’re here to help guide you.

Making an Appointment

If you’re interested in scheduling an appointment, our team will walk you through each step—starting with a brief screening call to learn more about your needs and determine the best fit for your care.

After we receive your inquiry, a graduate assistant will reach out to schedule the brief phone screening. During this call, we’ll learn more about your needs and determine whether GPAC is the most appropriate resource for your care. The graduate assistant will also answer any questions you may have about our clinic process or services.

Based on the information you provide, you will either be connected with one of our clinicians or given a referral list for providers or treatment centers that may be a better fit.

At GPAC, we are committed to providing high‑quality, consistent care. A predictable appointment schedule helps support your progress, strengthens the therapeutic relationship, and allows us to offer timely services to all clients in our community.

Commitment to Attendance

Regular and on-time attendance is an important part of successful treatment. We ask all clients to prioritize keeping their scheduled appointments, as consistent participation helps you gain the most benefit from therapy.

If You Need to Miss an Appointment

We fully understand that illnesses, emergencies, and unexpected situations can occur. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please contact our office as early as possible—ideally at least 24 hours before your appointment time.

Please leave your name, your clinician’s name, and the date/time of the appointment you need to cancel or reschedule.

Repeated No‑Shows

Because missed appointments limit access to other clients and reduce continuity of care, repeated no‑shows or late cancellations may impact your ability to remain active in services. Your clinician will discuss any concerns with you directly if this becomes an issue.

FEES & PAYMENT INFORMATION

Therapy Fees

Therapy session fees are based on an income‑adjusted sliding scale, ranging from $10 to $40 per session. Your clinician will review your fee with you at the start of treatment to ensure it is appropriate for your situation. At the beginning of services, you will also receive a Good Faith Estimate outlining the expected costs of your treatment, in compliance with federal regulations.

Insurance Information

As a nonprofit training clinic, we offer high quality psychological services at reduced rates to support accessibility in our community. We are not eligible to accept health insurance, including Medicare or Medicaid, for therapy services. All fees must be paid directly by the client at the time of service.

Our Location

The General Psychotherapy and Assessment Clinic (GPAC) is located on the second floor of UNCW’s Teaching Lab Building. Before your first appointment, you will receive a detailed map with directions and a parking pass to help you easily access the clinic.

Please note: GPAC follows the Ģ��ý academic and administrative calendar. This means the clinic is closed whenever UNCW is closed, including holidays, breaks, and weather‑related closures.

Clinic hours are reduced in the summer term (i.e., mid-May thru mid-August).
