General Psychotherapy and Assessment Clinic

Welcome to the Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ General Psychotherapy and Assessment Clinic. We are a nonprofit training clinic and mental health treatment center dedicated to providing compassionate, high‑quality, and affordable care to our community.

Our clinic offers individual psychotherapy for adults (18+), with integrated assessment tools used as part of ongoing treatment, serving clients in New Hanover County and the surrounding areas. Because we are committed to increasing access to behavioral health services, all appointments are offered at reduced rates to ensure that cost is never a barrier to care.

Our Mission

In partnership with UNCW’s doctoral program in Clinical Psychology, our mission is to serve as a center of excellence in both training future psychologists and providing high‑quality care to the community. Guided by our core values of compassion, respect, and integrity, we empower clients through accessible, individualized, and evidence‑based services.

As part of a major research university, our faculty supervisors and student therapists utilize the most effective, research‑supported treatment methods. We are fortunate to have experts across several specialty areas of clinical practice, enabling us to offer comprehensive and well‑informed care. All services are delivered by doctoral student therapists who receive close, ongoing supervision from licensed clinical psychologists.

Individual Psychotherapy

We provide outpatient therapy services for adults ages 18 and older who are looking for support with a variety of mental health concerns. We do not provide clinical care to individuals under age 18. People come to us for help with anxiety, depression, stress, sleep problems, trauma, obsessive‑compulsive symptoms, and many other challenges that affect daily life. Therapy session fees are based on an income‑adjusted sliding scale, ranging from $10 to $40 per session.

Our clinicians primarily use Cognitive‑Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a well‑researched approach that helps people understand patterns in their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and learn new skills to feel and function better. Your treatment plan will always be tailored to your individual needs, goals, and preferences.

If you're interested in exploring whether medication might be helpful for you, we can coordinate with your current medical provider or help connect you with a healthcare professional who can conduct a medication evaluation.

Affordable Fees

As a nonprofit training clinic, we offer high quality psychological services at reduced rates to support accessibility in our community. We are not eligible to accept health insurance, including Medicare or Medicaid, for therapy services. All fees must be paid directly by the client at the time of service.

Clinical Emergencies

GPAC does not provide emergency services and does not offer 24‑hour on‑call or phone coverage.

Please note: GPAC follows the Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ academic and administrative calendar. This means the clinic is closed whenever UNCW is closed, including holidays, breaks, and weather‑related closures. 

 

Clinic hours are reduced in the summer term (i.e., mid-May thru mid-August).
